Electro-pneumatic transducers are intended for conversion of the unified continuous DC signal to the unified proportional pneumatic continuous signal.

Electro-pneumatic transducer ЭП-Ех is intended for conversion of the unified continuous DC signal to the unified proportional pneumatic continuous signal.

Electro-pneumatic transducers comprise a unit of electro-pneumatic transducer ЭП-Ех and a passive IS barrier БИП-1.  

Transducer unit bears the explosion-proof marking “0ExiaIICT6X” completed with БИП-1, complies with requirements of GOST 22782.5-78, and is designed to be installed in indoor and outdoor explosion hazardous areas according to requirements of PUE Chapter 7.3 and other regulatory documents, regulating the application of electrical equipment in explosion hazardous areas.

The present technical description and operating instruction are designed to study the design, installation and servicing of electro-pneumatic transducers ЭП-0000.
Reliability of operation of electro-pneumatic transducers and their service life to a great extent depend on correct operation, that’s why prior to their installation and start-up it is necessary to study attentively the present document.

Purpose of electro-pneumatic transducers

Electro-pneumatic transducers of ЭП-0000 type are intended for conversion of the unified continuous DC signal to the unified proportional pneumatic continuous signal.

As to environmental protection rating and the scope of application, electro-pneumatic transducers are divided into the following versions:

ЭП-0010 – standard. Used for automatic control switching systems.

ЭП-0020 – protected against penetration of dust and water (ingress protected). Used for communication of electrical controls to pneumatic actuators in electro-pneumatic systems with automatic control of process procedures and drilling equipment diesels;

ЭП-0030 – protected against aggressive medium (corrosion-resistant). Used for communication of electrical controls to pneumatic actuators in electro-pneumatic systems with automatic control of process procedures at the natural gas conversion facilities, where the environment contents hydrogen sulfide up to 10 mg/m3 and (or) sulfur dioxide, and in case of emergency situations (for 3–4 hours) – up to 100 mg/m3 of hydrogen sulfide and (or) to 200 mg/m3 of sulfur dioxide. Content of hydrogen sulfide in the supply air up to 10 mg/m3 and (or) of sulfur dioxide up to 10 mg/m3 is allowed.

ЭП-0040 is a module of standard transducer version, used for installation inside electronic devices in automatic control systems. Transducers ЭП-0020 and ЭП-0030 with IP rating equal to IP54 as per GOST 14254-90 are intended for use in explosion hazardous areas, where at normal conditions (if there are no emergency situations or defects) no explosive mixes of gas and vapors are generated under conditions of macroclimatic regions with moderate cold and tropical climate.

Electro-pneumatic transducers ЭП-0010,ЭП-0040 are intended to operate at ambient air temperature from plus 5 to plus 60°С, relative humidity up to 80% (for tropical version the relative humidity is up to 98% at temperature 35°С).

TransducersЭП-0020, ЭП-0030 are intended to operate at ambient air temperature from minus 50 to plus 60°С, relative humidity up to 95% (for tropical version – up to 100% at temperature 35°С).

Transducers ЭП-0020,ЭП-0030 are resistant to vibration at frequency to 35 Hz and shift amplitude 0.35 mm. Transducers ЭП-0010,ЭП-0040 are resistant to vibration at frequency to 25 Hz and shift amplitude 0.1 mm.

Specifications

  • Variation range for input electrical current signals 0–5, 0–20, 4–20 mА.

  • Input resistances of transducers at 20.5°С, as maximum:

  • Pneumatic analog output signal is 20–100 kPa.

  • Rated supply air pressure is 140 kPa.

  • Allowable error of supply air pressure from the rated value is 10% as maximum. Supply air contamination classes shall be 0; 1 or 3 as per GOST 17433-80.

The limit of allowable basic error, expressed in percent of the rated measuring range of the output signal 80 kPa shall not exceed:

  • 0.25 for transducers of accuracy class 0.25; (ЭП-0010; ЭП-0040);

  • 0.5 for transducers of accuracy class 0.5; (ЭП-0010;ЭП-0040);

  • 1.0 for transducers of accuracy class 1.0. (ЭП-0010; ЭП-0020; ЭП-0030; ЭП-0040).

Variation of output signal shall not exceed the absolute value of the allowable basic error limit for transducers with accuracy classes 0.25; 0.5 and 0.5 of the absolute value of the allowable basic error limit for transducers with accuracy class of 1.0.

Supply air flowrate for transducers in steady-state condition is 2 L/min as maximum.

Transducer output air flowrate characterizing the power of its output signal is 30 L/min as minimum.

In the course of installation of transducers with deviation from the operating position to 2°, the device shall comply with item 2.5, from 2 to 10°, variation of output signal shall not exceed 0.5 of the allowable basic error limit.

Composition of electro-pneumatic transducers

Transducers comprise the following main assemblies:

  1. conversion unit I/Р;

  2. base;

  3. cover.

Operating principle of electro-pneumatic transducers

Operating principle of the transducer is based on the method of force compensating, at which the moment developed by the coil located within the field of a permanent magnet, proportional to the input signal, is compensated with a moment of force developed by feedback bellows.

Input resistances of transducers at (20+5)°С, Ohm, as maximum:

for an input signal of 0–5 mA – 610,

for an input signal of 0–20, 4–20 mA – 130. The output pneumatic analog signal of transducers is 20–100 kPa.

Rated supply air pressure is 140 kPa.

It is recommended to use an air pressure stabilizing filter ФСДВ for supply air preparation for transducers.

Supply air flowrate for electro-pneumatic transducer in steady-state condition is 2 l/min as maximum.

Transducers ЭП-0010, ЭП-0020, ЭП-0030 are equipped with mounting parts to provide:

  • wall, pipe, or board mounting;
  • nozzle connection of 00-01-1, 00-02-2, 00-03-3, 00-04-3 type as per GOST 25165-82.

Ambient medium parameters (temperature, °С):

  • ЭП-0010, ЭП-0040: +5...+60
  • ЭП-0020, ЭП-0030: -50...+60
